Eezi Awn is probably the best made and designed of all the rooftents currently available. You're most likely browsing around the web looking at all the available options so please spend a while looking through the information here and if you require any further details please contact us.
Eezi Awn have been producing rooftents for the last 25 years and are now one of the largest manufacturers of RECVEE Equipment. Since their inception the Eezi Awn name has become synonymous with quality and innovation for rooftop tents and retractable awnings.
The Series 3 Rooftent from Eezi Awn is the smaller (and lighter) of the two Eezi Awn models we have. This type of tent is more versatile in how and where it can be mounted. For example most roof tents fitted will open over the rear door of the vehicle, this model can be mounted over the cab / bonnet if you want to. It is also ideal for fixing onto pick-up backs, trailers and even onto much higher vehicles such as trucks and buses.
The tent itself is manufactured from heavy duty rip-stop canvas and double stitched throughout. This is stretched onto aluminium bows which are in turn fitted to top quality polyurethane coated plywood boards. The hardware and fittings are all manufactured from custom designed anodised aluminium extrusions and stainless steel hinges. The flysheet is made from lightweight reinforced PVC material.
The obvious comparisons with the T-Top is the differences in the access to the tent. Whilst still under the shelter of the flysheet the entrance is still exposed. Internally the sleeping areas are very similar with the Series 3 available in 4 different sizes. The mattress is manufactured from 60mm laminated high density foam. (SABS Approved*) This mattress folds over and remains inside the tent during transit. Along the inner walls are two elongated pockets for storage.
When opened out the tent has two side windows and doors at either end to allow ventilation and easy access. The doors and windows feature internally zipped privacy panels and full mossie netting. Externally the windows and doors are all covered by either the flysheet or the side shades. These are all held in place by the anodised steel sprung supports which locate into the base.
There is also an internal bungy mechanism to aid with the closing of the tent.
The tent opens and closes by means of the extending ladder which is fitted to the base board. This ladder also supports the tent when open.
The whole package is complemented by a transit cover which covers the entire closed tent and ladder and secures tight with a pull strap / ratchet mechanism. This system is favoured over the zipped method to ensure trouble free use. Experience has shown that with the best will in the world Zips that are exposed to the elements (rain and dust) can clog and break at the most inconvenient of times. There are additional straps that also pull down to reduce the amount of flap on the cover whilst driving.
The basic set-up time for pitching these tents is about 10 - 15 minutes. It takes a similar amount of time to pack the tent back down again for transit.
The tents can be mounted onto most vehicles with a suitable roof mounting system. This can either be a flat roof rack or sturdy roof bars. (we usually recommend 3 of these) The tent can be mounted to open side ways or long ways down the vehicle. The latter being the best use of the room for most 4x4 users but those with other commercials such as VW combi's will have the tent opening over the side to allow access through the side door. The weight varies from model to model but assume between 55kg and 75kg depending on the model. (Obviously you need to ensure that your vehicle can take this amount of weight and also the weight of the users of tent!)
The prices quoted are inclusive of all the equipment described above and VAT. What is not included is the ladder extension piece which may be required for some higher vehicles and any fitting or delivery costs.
There are also options available for a shower skirt / privacy screen which will attach to the underside of the tent.
Available in the following sizes.

Doors and Windows everywhere. Sleeping in one of these is a pleasure. With practice a "series three" can be put up in about five minutes. The "transit cover" is adjustable but does not allow for all my bedding to be stored for cold weather camping. Waterproof up and down!
